Diving into a new Chapter: My underwater adventures in Nosy Be, Madagascar

Diving into a new Chapter: My underwater adventures in Nosy Be, Madagascar

A New Beginning in Nosy Be

This year, I took a leap into the unknown — moving to Nosy Be, a paradise island off Madagascar’s northwest coast. With no prior experience of the country or the region, I was ready to embrace every surprise this chapter would bring and jump into a new adventure!

So here I am, sitting at the beach, listening to the calming waves of the Indian Ocean 🙂

Discovering Nosy Be Above the Surface

Nosy Be, a stunning island off the northwest coast of Madagascar, quickly won me over: lush forests, vibrant markets, rich Malagasy culture, and locals who made me feel immediately at home. From martial arts events to local food markets, this island offers so much more than beaches.

Diving the Indian Ocean – Warm Waters, Big Wonders

From the moment I landed, Nosy Be won me over with its lush landscapes and friendly locals. But the real highlight? The underwater world. My journey began with dives at the Tanikely Marine Reserve, where I was greeted by 27°C warm waters, crystal-clear visibility, and a kaleidoscope of marine life — Schools of colourful fish swam around me, while curious sea turtles glided smoothly by. We even got to greet some sharks! The coral reefs were teeming with life, with each nook and cranny home to fascinating creatures.

My favorite Dive: the Mitsio wreck

Among all the dive spots I’ve explored, the Mitsio Wreck stands out. Resting at a Nitrox-friendly depth of ~30 meters, it’s a hidden gem that reveals something new each time. It’s a must for wreck and macro lovers alike.

There’s more to Nosy Be than just diving

Since I’ve been here, I’ve done a lot more than just dive: I spent my days exploring the island’s lush forests and other stunning islands nearby, but also visiting local markets and soaking up the rich Malagasy culture at a material arts competition. The islanders are really friendly and make me feel super welcome on this island.

In short, Nosy Be is the perfect place for divers. So if you want to come and visit me, grab your diving gear, bring your sense of adventure, and get ready to explore one of the most beautiful underwater worlds on the planet with me.

Ready to Dive with me?

Nosy Be is a dream for divers — whether you’re here for vibrant reefs, wrecks, or megafauna. If you’re planning to visit, I’d love to share my favorite spots and local tips.
