A Different Kind of Berlin Trip
Berlin has always been on my list — but this visit wasn’t about sightseeing. I had the honor of working at the Special Olympics World Games 2023, supporting the inspiring delegation of Special Olympics Nicaragua.
Together, we travelled across Berlin, Frankfurt, and Darmstadt — 25 athletes, coaches, and staff — and formed a bond that turned us into one team.
Highlights That Touched My Heart
This journey was filled with unforgettable moments:
- 💙 Training with the SO Nicaragua swim team — a moment of pure honor and joy.
- 🏊‍♀️ Esmeralda helping Sarah during their swimming race — a gesture so genuine it deserves to be a global example (seriously, look it up!).
- 🕺 Partying at Brandenburg Gate — 3,000 athletes and volunteers dancing together. Absolute goosebumps!
These experiences reminded me what true inclusion, connection, and joy in sports look like.
A Little Tourism, Too
Of course, I also had a bit of time to explore Berlin. My personal highlight? Swimming in the historic 1936 Olympic Pool — stepping into history, literally.
