How to tie …

How to tie …
28. August 2020 by simone

A topic that is always reacurring is how to tie a boltsnap to your regulator or light, backuplight, or whatever. I will explain you how I do it.

But before showing you the how-to, I want to point out two things:

  • Zip ties are no appropriate solution. wondering why? well, try it, and then turn the boltsnap around. You´ll see how easy they break…
  • Metal connections are no appropriate solution either. It might seem a good idea to use a spare ring from your keys to do get that boltsnap and backup light together. But in the moment you get entagled need to cut yourself free, you wish you did that tie properly.

So, now to the how-to:

  • all you need: boltsnap, some caveline (but make sure to leave at least 30m on your spool), a cutting device and a lighter
  • we start by looping the caveline around the hose/light/whatever and push both ends through the boltsnap
  • make sure the lines cross and make one line go around your hose/light/whatever again
  • tie off once
  • now tighten and move the boltsnap to the other side
  • double-tie-off on the other side
  • tighten
  • cut the lines (not too close)
  • and now use your lighter to melt the ends onto the knot making it ‘fire proof’

Let me know if my explanation helped you!
